From feeding hungry children to supporting the expansion of a longtime local business, the Vandalia-Butler Foundation supports worthy efforts in our own backyard.

The Foundation has awarded five grants to non-profit organizations in the community and named Crossroads Coins, Inc. the recipient of the 2024 Small Business Opportunity Fund grant.

The awards:

$2,600 to Food4Kids to support Vandalia’s First Light Church and its Care4kids program in their efforts to provide weekend food bags to students in Vandalia-Butler City Schools who are facing food insecurity.

$1,500 to the Anthony Trissell Memorial Foundation for pre-game meals for the Butler High School Marching Band and other performers at home football games and evening meals for 2025 band camp members. Founded in memory of Anthony Trissell, a sophomore drummer in the marching band who died in 2016, the foundation encourages young performers and works to de-stigmatize mental health issues.

$500 to the Vandalia Youth Theatre toward staging the fall musical, Peter Pan Jr. Approximately 100 children make up two casts who will perform Nov. 20-22 at the Arbogast Performing Arts Center in Troy.

$500 to the Butler Performing Arts Association in support of the Butler High School Marching Aviators’ and Kickline’s participation in the STARS program at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida.

$500 to Sister Cities of Vandalia for supplies and support for the 2025 Oktoberfest, slated for Sept. 5-6 at the Vandalia Sports Complex. Sister Cities of Vandalia fosters global friendship, understanding and communication through cultural exchanges.

In conjunction with the family of the late Ron Gearhart, the Vandalia-Butler Foundation awarded a $1,500 Small Business Opportunity Fund grant to Crossroads Coins, Inc. for human resources assistance as the company expands. Started in 1978 as a mom-and-pop coin shop, the business has expanded its retail operation and now serves a number of regional wholesale clients.

The Vandalia-Butler Foundation and its funds are components of The Dayton Foundation. Leadership for the Vandalia-Butler Foundation rests in our own community, while fiscal oversight of our funds is maintained by The Dayton Foundation, which serves the Dayton/Miami Valley area. This partnership allows for the Vandalia-Butler community to benefit from local leadership and profit from resources pooled with others for investment growth.
