VISIONS
Creativity. Imagination. Pandas.
What do pandas, the solar system, wireless microphones, a book vending machine and an original play have in common?
They are all innovative projects and field trips that opened a world of opportunity for Vandalia-Butler students, and they were all funded through the VISIONS: An Eye for the Future Fund and its auxiliary education funds.
The Vandalia-Butler Foundation Education Fund Advisory Committee, chaired by trustee Denise Eder, raises funds from businesses, individuals, families and educators and accepts grant applications annually from the district’s classroom teachers. Grants are awarded in February.
Projects funded expand classroom experiences beyond the narrow boundaries of the district’s budget. Since 2002, more than $260,000 has been granted or committed to support learning opportunities that have a lasting impact on thousands of children.

Mary Ann Wietzel
“What’s in It for the Kids?” Fund (2000)
This fund supports innovative programs and activities to engage Helke Elementary School children in their learning through authentic, hands-on experiences. Friends and family established this fund in memory of Mary Ann Wietzel, a longtime Vandalia-Butler educator and former principal of Helke, so that her creativity and can-do spirit could live on.
