The Vandalia-Butler Foundation is hosting an “End of Summer Spectacular Cornhole Tournament” at 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 4, at the Vandalia Sports Complex, 1111 Stonequarry Rd.

Proceeds will benefit the Vandalia-Butler City Schools’ Passport to Safety Program, which has taught thousands of kindergarteners the importance of safety.

Pre-registration is required.  Tickets are $40 per two-person team, and registrations will be accepted until the 16-team tournament bracket is filled. There is no age limit.

Register through eventbrite.com here or by visiting the site and searching for “End of Summer Spectacular Cornhole Tournament.”

“Teams are encouraged to think of fun, creative names and wear costumes, if they’d like,” said Bill McIntire, trustee for the Vandalia-Butler Foundation and public services director for Dayton Metro Library. “Prizes will be awarded for first place, second place and best team costume.”

All teams must sign a waiver before play. Copies are available at the Vandalia Public Library, 330 S. Dixie Dr., as well as at the registration table at the event. Participants under 18 years of age must have a parent or guardian signature.

The cornhole tournament is part of Vandalia’s family-friendly “End of Summer Spectacular,” which includes games, arts and crafts, food trucks, a back-to-school raffle and the outdoor showing of the Disney movie, “Encanto,” at 9 p.m. “End of Summer Spectacular,” which runs from 6-10:30 p.m., is free and open to the public.

The Vandalia-Butler Foundation has contributed more than $6,000 through a grant and additional fundraising to support the Passport to Safety Program in memory of Clyde and Sally Knox and Sarah and Kayla Anderson. The four Butler Twp. residents died after a shooting last August. A long-time Vandalia-Butler Schools transportation employee, Sally Knox was known as “Silly Sally” because she dressed as a clown and engaged with kindergarteners while teaching them the ins and outs of school bus safety.

For those interested in contributing to the initiative, please mail checks to the Vandalia-Butler Foundation Fund 9873, c/o The Dayton Foundation, 1401 S. Main St., Suite 100, Dayton, OH 45409.
