A Message from Our President
Dear Valued Friend of The Vandalia-Butler Foundation,
On behalf of The Vandalia-Butler Foundation Board of Trustees, I want to thank you for your generous support and compassion for others. Together, we have weathered enormous challenges during a global pandemic, but we never lost sight of our mission to help businesses, families, individuals, organizations, and schools in Vandalia and Butler Township.
The Vandalia-Butler Foundation Family of Funds' balance at the end of June 2021 was $3,926,992. It is an honor to be entrusted with providing guidance and support for these funds as we commit to positive change in our community.
In 2021, The Vandalia-Butler Foundation, primarily through its VISIONS Endowment Fund, awarded a record $28,531 in educational grants to support more than a dozen initiatives in Vandalia-Butler City Schools. We proudly supported 21 students with scholarships totaling $30,725, and awarded a deserving Small Business Opportunity Grant.
In addition, we proudly joined The Dayton Foundation's "100 Years of Helping Others" celebration by focusing our fundraising and charitable giving efforts on a single project to benefit the Vandalia-Butler Community. The Vandalia-Butler Foundation selected St. Christopher School as the recipient of its generous gift of $4,800 to purchase and install hydroponic vertical grow towers, including seedlings and instruction, to support students and staff in gardening year-round. Produce from the grow towers is donated to the Vandalia-Butler Food Pantry.
It is a pleasure to present the 2020-2021 Annual Report of The Vandalia-Butler Foundation. Please take a moment to look through this report and review our accomplishments for 2020 and 2021.
We hope that you will explore the possibilities of how we may assist you in growing our Vandalia-Butler community.
Vandalia-Butler Foundation Accepting Grant Applications
The Vandalia-Butler Foundation is accepting grant applications for the 2022-23 fiscal year from August 15, 2022, through September 15, 2022. Grant recipients will be notified of awards by October 15, 2022.
To be eligible for a grant, an organization must be recognized as tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, be nondiscriminatory, and address needs that are not met fully by existing organizational or community resources. Generally, the Foundation makes grants to help launch new projects not addressed by existing organizations or to support special efforts of already established non-profit organizations. A proposal needs to represent a unique and unduplicated opportunity that will benefit a substantial number of people in Vandalia and/or Butler Township.

Another Record Year for VISIONS
In 2021, The Vandalia-Butler Foundation, primarily through its VISIONS Endowment Fund, awarded a record $28,531 in educational grants to support more than a dozen initiatives, including materials for biomedical sciences classes at the high school, a book vending machine for elementary school students and take-home science kits for middle school students who were learning remotely.
The bulk of the funding — $24, 595 — came from the VISIONS Endowment Fund. Other grants were supported by the Cotterman Fund ($1,264), A.R.T.S. Fund ($1,308), the Mary Ann Wietzel "What's In It For Kids?" Fund ($900) and the Vandalia-Butler Alumni Association ($464).
Since 2002, nearly $150,000 has been granted to support learning opportunities for students in the district.
The Vandalia-Butler Foundation proudly awarded its annual Small Business Opportunity Grant to Optimus Prosthetics in Butler Township. Optimus Prosthetics is using the $1,500 grant to purchase and install a special dust collection system to reduce the amount of airborne particles resulting from the on-site fabrication of prosthetics and protect the health of the employees.
"The Vandalia-Butler Foundation recognizes the vital role our small businesses play in creating jobs and growing our economy," said Jean Maychack, President — Vandalia-Butler Foundation. "The global COVID-19 pandemic has presented enormous challenges for small businesses and this funding can help mitigate expenses."
The Vandalia-Butler Foundation Small Business Opportunity Grant was established in memory of Butler Township resident Ron Gearhart.
Recipients are selected via a competitive application process.
